Reigning Skip Barber champion Joel Miller attended a two day test with JDC
Motorsports at Sebring raceway on Monday and Tuesday; Joel and all the drivers
present were set a 5 hour test time over the 2 days due to the fact that the
American Le Mans Series was also testing at the venue.
Miller ran his fastest laps at the Florida track in Monday's session, the quickest being a
2:00.42 which placed him 3rd overall of the 12 drivers
testing during the 2 day event. The team are still working to find the sweet spot to match his driving
style. Joel likes a car with a little understeer but right now, his JDC entry is
plowing aggressively in some of the corners, scrubbing off too much speed due
to a mechanical issue.
As the track was slower on Day 2, Joel and his engineer Rick Cameron
decided on a test programme which tried different chassis settings to help Miller understand the different characterists of the Star Mazda car in
readiness of the season opener in March.
Joel is quoted "Despite not having the quickest time overall, Rick and I
continued our progress on getting the chassis right."
"A few motor issues hampered our speed especially on Tuesday, but that is what testing is for really. I have confidence that the team will be able to fix the issue and we will be right on pace come the race weekend."
Miller is pleased with his and the team's progress as they prepare for the
first race in the 2008 Star Mazda Championship, presented by Goodyear.
