'Rocket Rookie' Joel Miller continues to be the driver to beat in the 2008 Star Mazda presented by Goodyear Championship as he attended the official 2 day test at Miller Motorsport Park in Utah at the beginning of this week. Multiple teams and drivers were present for the test and preparing for round 2 which takes place on the upcoming May 17th weekend. With good weather on Monday 5th, day 1, Joel worked down to a lap time of 1:45.95, with Andersen driver Charles Hall being his nearest rival lapping in a time of 1:46.53. Rick Cameron and Joel spent the first afternoon working on fine tuning the chassis set up's in preparation for the race weekend. On day 2, Joel who is part of the MAZDASPEED Driver Development program, again posted the fastest time in the morning session, which was a 1:45.32 - his nearest challenger Charles Hall was 0.38 seconds behind. The afternoon session was lost as the car suffered from mechanical problems which were our of Miller's control. His time on day two was good enough to put him on the top spot for the second day in a row and for the entire test. Charles Hall was again second 4 tenths back from Miller's 1:45.32.Joel quotes: "It feels really good to go into next weekend knowing we have a good package that is capable of winning. I have total confidence in the JDC team to find the mechanical issue from Tuesday afternoon." Thanks must go out to my sponsors Mazda, K&N, Sparco, ClassicStone, Dream Cars, Oakley, Sportdrink+, and MOCKETT Company. Also to the JDC team, especially John, Scott and Rick Cameron for all their hard work. Joel Miller |
